So yesterday went just fine, but I realize the weekend is upon me and am fearful for all the progress I've made in the last few days. Usually what happens on the weekends is Ari's bedtime gets pushed back past mine, I eat everything in sight (including 4 homemade challahs), and the thought of exercise becomes laughable because I would rather hang out with my family at home than take a walk.
I've noticed that when I sit around the house, I eat much much more than when I'm running around doing stuff.... so my goal for the weekend is to really try to get out of the house as much as possible. Here in Oregon, the summers are amazing! It's warm without the heat or humidity and Oregonians know how to take advantage of it by having multiple fairs/festivals/carnivals every weekend from July through the beginning of September! The plan is to go to at least 1 fair or festival per day over the weekend with the hope that if I don't just sit home and eat, I'll get some fresh air & exercise :) Also, I'm going to freeze 2 of my challahs for next week so I don't eat them all and also have less work for next week!
1) Lose 10 pounds - Did pretty well with food today. Once more I managed to keep mostly away from carbs and emphasise veggies over the rest of the meal. The scale didn't budge.
2) Diastasis class - I'm going well getting the exercises and movements, but I know I'm picking up the kids too much. Walking around with a kid on the hip pulls the muscles apart which is why I'm not supposed to pick them up, but if I have to I should be holding them chest to chest and pulling them in tight.... which is hard! What's really killing me is that Ari has taken a sudden dislike to walking up and down the stairs himself and when Lilah sees me carrying him, she needs wants to be carried too. So instead of not carrying any kids, lately I've been carrying two kids. I need to figure out a way to make it into a game so I don't undue my hard work.
3) Exercise - Exercise????? what exercise?!?!?!? Still need to come up with a solution to this. Any ideas?
4) Get Ari in bed and asleep by 9pm - Doing well with this one. Last night he had his "Daddy Goodnight" a quick pee and in bed by 9:15. Although it's not the 9pm on the dot I was hoping for, I'm much happier with 9:15 than 10:30. Since he really seems to be getting the idea that bedtime is for realsies now, I'll try to push that up to 9pm for this coming week since I'm not going to push my luck over a weekend when things are so much harder anyway :)
5) Get Lilah to FINALLY sleep through the night - Lilah went to bed at 8pm last night and woke up at 12:10, but instead of nursing her, I told her to go to bed and she refused :( It took her close to an hour to fall back asleep and I had to check and console her 3x, but I have to consider it an accomplishment for not giving in and nursing her. Listening to your child cry is one of the hardest things in life, but I know it's the best thing for her to put herself back to sleep and it's certainly the best thing for me to finally get some sleep. That being said, she fell back asleep around 1am and slept until 5am! Unfortunately, I guess my body is now used to her waking every 2-3 hours because I was up again a little after 4am and ran into her room to make sure she was still alive, then laid there in bed waiting for her to wake up until 5am. After nursing she went right back to sleep and slept until 6:30. It's only been two days, but I think the blackout shades are helping :)
6) Wean Lilah - FOUR NURSINGS!!!!! She basically nursed for 1st nap, 2nd nap, bedtime and ONCE in the middle of the night! YAY ME!!!! And the most surprising thing was how much she drank from a sippy cup when I actually gave her the opportunity. All this time I thought she had trouble with sippy cups when it seems the truth is really I was giving her most of her liquids and she didn't need a sippy cup..... What an eye opener! Of all the challenges I set for myself, this was the one I was least confident in achieving because I didn't know if Lilah was capable of getting her liquids from another source. I even took the poor kid to a Speech Language Pathologist b/c of this issue!! Now I have a new ray of hope.
