Week 3, Day 5

Still getting over this cold, but it's definitely getting better!

1) Lose 10 pounds - Yesterday morning I was 159.6!!!  I've hit the promised land!!  But the truth is that the weekend is coming and I have to be very cautious since I know the weekend usually involves me eating a ton.  Also, I need to give a shout out to Rachael because I've seriously cut down on my carbs at her suggestion and it's obviously made a difference.  We'll see if I can hold on to this :)

2) Diastasis class - 3 out of 5 for the day....better than yesterday, but not where I want to be :(

3) Exercise - Nunca

4) Get Ari in bed and asleep by 9pm - Ari's bedtime has become a mixed bag and I'm afraid my "bedtime challenge" is also going to turn into a "naptime challenge."  Yesterday, Ari took a nearly 3 hour nap and didn't wake up until 5pm... so he wasn't remotely ready for bed by 9pm.  He willingly went upstairs and had a nice bath at 8:30, we read books and lights were off by 9:07, but he didn't fall asleep until nearly 11:00!!!!  On the positive side he only came downstairs ONCE at 9:45!  Even though he was awake and no where near sleep, he stayed in his room & on his bed for nearly 2 hours until he finally drifted off which is awesome:)  From now on, his naps are going to be limited to 1 1/2 hrs in the afternoon.  He's not ready yet to skip his naps entirely, but (unless he's sick) a 3 hour nap is too long and effects his bedtime routine.

5) Get Lilah to FINALLY sleep through the night - Lilah only woke 2x last night!  Again, we're moving in the right direction.  She woke around 1am, but I did not nurse her.  Unfortunately, it took her close to an hour to fall back asleep, but it's kind of my fault :(  Every time she started drifting off, I would start coughing and she would hear me and start crying again.  I'm not beating myself up too much b/c who can control a cough?  She finally fell back asleep around 2am and didn't wake up again until 4:30am.  I nursed her, but fell asleep in the chair for an hour and didn't get back to my own bed until 5:30.   She was up for the day at 7am.

6) Wean Lilah - Another move in the right direction!  I only nursed Lilah THREE times yesterday!!!  Afternoon nap, before bedtime and once in the night :)  She's doing really well with her sippy cup and I'm so proud of her AND me!!!!  I can see the light at the end of the tunnel on this one :)  There's a piece of me which wonders if I'll be able to drop those last 10 pounds until Lilah is weaned?  From my observations, it seems to me that only about 1/2 the population actually loses weight by breastfeeding. The other half of us seem to hold on to that last 10 pounds until our babies are weaned.  Although technically I know it's all about 'calories in/calories out' I think there's also something hormonal going on so we keep can continue feeding our wee babes with our fat reserves.

  1. When A napped he never went to bed before 1030 because he wasn't tired. Mornings were awful too trying to get him up for school. Then when he stopped napping (when baby was born and A was 31/2 years old) he started going to bed at 6pm and waking at 6am. He gets up at 10pm to pee, and goes right back to sleep. Life without a nap is challenging, but we find A gets better quality sleep now.
Congrats! You are doing great- remember housework gardening cleaning and running up and down the stairs all counts for exercise!

  2. Thanks for the suggestions Mary :) I know Ari will start missing his naps soon enough (and all will be well with his bedtime when that happens), but he's still in the place where if he attempts to skip a nap he'll usually pass out wherever he is around 5pm, wake around 6ish, then be up until 11pm. So until he can regularly skip a nap, I think I'm going to need to just limit naptime.
